I did get my answer. The SoS has not even looked into it yet. He said that will happen in the spring of 2010.

He also said there has been no communication between his office and any top elected officials.

Well, for what it is worth, I don’t think that asking anyone what & how it is worded will make a difference. All that does is forewarn officials about this as well. I would expect that they would be against it since it poses possible changes to their status quo.

It HAS to show up – according to the state constitution.

The purpose of this site is to remind folks that this is coming and to inform them what this means and how it could be used to their benefit. Such as voting for legislation for a recall mechanism, term limits, etc.

I believe the last time such a Convention was held (or attempted) was back in the ’60’s.
It is mentioned in the History tab, pretty sure as Governor Tawes was the one who thought it was a good idea at the time.
Yes, the lawmakers are against the idea since it would upset the status quo and introduce, possibly, mechanisms to make them less prone to political shenanigans. That is the positive spin at least. Other folks are against the idea of a constitutional convention because they fear it opens the possibility of corrupting the state constitution.

Either way this is “spun” – the media, in particular the Sunpapers, keep recommending NOT to answer YES to this question that appears on the ballot once every 20 years.

So, yes the folks have forgotten what this is and what it is for – and the electorate and media believe this is way it should remain.

Obviously, I do not. Hence this site.

The people in this state seem to be like sheep, or perhaps we are all asleep. We NEED to revisit the Maryland Constitution just to let folks know what is NOT included. When was our last Constitutional Convention held in this state? What are lawmakers afraid of? Term Limits, Budget Transparency, or what?

Apparently someone does.
I had inadvertently found a short message thread on the Baltimore Sunpapers message board asking this.
Apparently, the timeframe from one of my prior posts to the next one had coincided with the timeframe that Martin Watcher went on a 2 week hiatus.

And lo and behold, some thought that MW and I were the same person.

Imagine that.

So some are apparently still digging into that immortal question (as I heard Ron Smith ask it a couple times) – “Are you Martin Watcher” – with a few callers into his talk show.
