UPDATE: MD Assault Weapons Ban Introduced

UPDATE: This Bill has been WITHDRAWN.

Today State Senator Michael Lenett (D-19) introduced Senate Bill 516, a bill that would designate certain firearms as “assault weapons” and would prohibit the possession, transfer or receiving of these so called “assault weapons” by law-abiding Maryland residents. The bill has been assigned to the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee. It will be the responsibility of the Handgun Roster Board to compile and maintain a roster of such prohibited “assault weapons”.

Banning semi-automatic firearms, based solely upon their appearance, among honest, law-abiding residents in Maryland, SB 516 is nothing more than posturing by extreme anti-gun politicians looking to take away our Second Amendment rights every chance they get.

Please contact your State Senator TODAY and respectfully request that he or she oppose Senate Bill 516! For contact information please click here.

  1. Here is how it is: Dust control is the elimination of dust, ant control is the elimination of ants, gun control is the elimination of guns. SB-516 would ban almost all semiautomatic rifles. Any semiautomatic rifle that can accept a detachable magazine would be banned. Passage of this legislation would require owners of such rifles to either register them with the State Police or get them out of the state. This includes even those that aren’t on the MD Regulated Firearm list. I already called my state senator’s office and let her know that I didn’t like at all the fact that she was co-sponsoring this legislation. It is tyrannical in nature and a blatant expansion of government power. Hopefully, the Senate Judicial Proceedings committee will vote this down if it comes up for a hearing. Furthermore, we should vote out anybody who supports the passage of this terrible legislation.
